People often talk about “German-speaking Switzerland” as a single block. In our line of work, though, needs vary a great deal from one city to the next.
Basel moves to the rhythm of the pharmaceutical and chemical industries. Many researchers and executives arrive on two- to four-year contracts, often straight from abroad. Its position where three countries meet adds a twist: some live in France or Germany while working in Switzerland.
Bern is the city of the federal administration, embassies and international organisations. Stays here are often tied to a posting, with durations known in advance — exactly the case where renting beats buying.
Zug concentrates multinational headquarters, holding companies and trading firms. The rental market is tight and expensive, and clients are demanding about furniture quality. It is also the region where requests for a fast set-up are most frequent.
Why renting beats buying in these cities
What these three markets have in common: a high share of fixed-term stays. When you know you are leaving in three years, buying a full set of furniture — CHF 8'000 to 15'000 for a family home — and then reselling it at a loss makes little sense.

Allow one to two weeks as a rule, depending on availability and route planning. For a complete project, it is best to contact us as soon as you know your move-in date.
